About the Fire Chief, Tim Gothard

During his fire career that spans thirty-seven years, Fire Chief, Tim Gothard, has been involved with the Gladewater Fire Department, where he began his career; the Ennis Fire Department, where he served as Fire Lieutenant-Paramedic; Bardwell Volunteer Fire Department as Fire Chief; Ellis County where he served as Volunteer Fire Marshal; Canton Fire Department as Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator and Deputy EMC for Van Zandt County; Hays County ESD Number 6 as Fire Chief and Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office where he served as Assistant Fire Marshal.

Tim holds an Associate Degree from Navarro Junior College and has twice attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Tim holds Master certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as Master Firefighter, Master Inspector, Master Arson Investigator, Fire Instructor III, Driver Operator, Fire Officer II, Incident Safety Officer, and Wild land Firefighter. He is a certified Master Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education and also is EMT certified.

In the past, Tim has twice served as President for the North Texas Fireman and Fire Marshal’s Association and was the 2007 runner-up for the State Firemen and Fire Marshal’s Firefighter of the Year Award.

Tim was a guest instructor for twenty-one years for the Annual TEEX Fire School that is held in College Station.

Chief Gothard and his wife Elaine enjoy spending time with family, traveling and camping.

About the Deputy Director, Ray Isom

Ray is a second-generation firefighter who began his career in 1996 in his hometown of Ennis, Texas. In 2004, Mr. Isom became a Deputy with the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office in Austin, Texas. During this time, Ray oversaw fire prevention for state-owned facilities while also working on several high-profile arson and bomb cases. He was also involved in coastal relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Ray joined the Allen Fire Department in 2008 as a Fire Prevention Specialist. While there, he was involved in countless new construction projects, arson investigations, and assisted with the city's Emergency Management efforts.

Ray is a certified Master Firefighter and commissioned Master Peace Officer. He is certified in the disciplines of Arson Investigator, Fire Inspector, Fire Officer, Driver/Operator, Incident Safety Officer, Fire Service Instructor, and Law Enforcement Instructor. Mr. Isom was recognized as a Certified Fire Protection Specialist through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in 2005. He has also completed the nation’s only Fire Executive Management Training (FEMT) program through the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) located on the campus of Sam Houston State University. Additionally, Ray holds a General Class FCC Amateur Radio License.

Mr. Isom is a 2001 graduate of Oklahoma State University and holds a B.S Degree in Psychology with a minor in Fire Protection. He earned his Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2015.

Ray is married to his wife, Lola, and they have two wonderful children. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, outdoor adventures, and the pursuit of knowledge. Deputy Chief Isom joined the Anna Fire Department in 2017.
