The City of Anna is now accepting applications from citizens interested in serving on one of the five boards or commissions that serve as advisory bodies to the City Council. These volunteer positions are critical to the City’s development and serve as the voice of Anna residents in the decision-making process.
“Serving on one of these board and commissions is an important part of citizen engagement,” says Carrie Smith, City Secretary who has overall responsibility for recruiting volunteers for these positions. “The Mayor and Council have always expressed the significantly important nature of the work performed at the board and commission level.”
Individuals who are interested in serving must meet certain eligibility criteria. Terms are for two years and begin in June. Individual interviews with eligible candidates for the positions will be held in April and May by a panel appointed by the Mayor.
Open positions exist in each of the five advisory bodies, including the Community Development Corporation, the Economic Development Corporation, the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Board of Adjustment, and the Parks Advisory Board.
To be considered for a position, applicants must be a qualified voter in the City of Anna; be willing to attend the regular scheduled meetings of the Board or Commission; adhere to the City Code of Ethics; and complete an official Board and Commission Candidate Application Form.
The application form and the Code of Ethics can be downloaded by visiting: https://www.annatexas.gov/875/Boards-and-Commissions.
Completed applications and a current resume can be returned electronically to boards@annatexas.gov or delivered by hand or US mail to: Office of the City Secretary, 111 N Powell Parkway, P.O. Box 776, Anna, TX 75409-0776.
