The hour-long presentation consisted of some 30 slides which gave attendees a look at the City of Anna’s structure along with its short- and long-term plans and programs. The presentation was entitled “Who We Are, What We Do, Where We Are Going.”
After making introductions of the Council members and staff present, the Mayor spoke of the City’s commitment to operating efficiently, as well as in the interest of its neighbors, highlighting the work of the staff, especially those involved in public safety.
The presentation also included a look at the City’s rapid growth. The Mayor pointed out the meteoric rise in population and residential construction. Closely tied to that growth, the Mayor focused on the various street, road and highway construction projects that have resulted from the growth.
Mayor Pike spent a good portion of the presentation speaking about the current and upcoming economic development projects that the City has been working on. Among the impending commercial additions to the City were those locally concentrated in the US 75 and Hwy 455 intersection, the main entry into Anna.
Businesses highlighted included several retail food and beverage concessionaires, a suite of medical offices and a hotel from a major national chain. A revitalized downtown, a new business park on Anna’s north end, and a look at the new City Hall complex rounded out the presentation.
Following the formal portion of the Mayor’s comments, a question and answer session was held with attendees, most of whom expressed an interested in the commercial aspects of the City’s future plans.
The presentation was recorded for viewing by those interested persons who were not able to attend in person. It is currently available for viewing on the City of Anna Facebook page. Officials are planning to make the State of the City presentation an annual event, and are open to requests for the presentation to be made to other groups and organizations within Anna.
