Water rates to take a slight increase

In order to ensure that our utility rates will continue to support our operating costs and debt service obligations, the City hired a rate consultant to evaluate our utility system’s operating costs and debt payments, and offered recommendations regarding rate adjustments that would be necessary to fully fund the cost of operating our system while maintaining adequate financial reserves.

Based on the most recent rate study analysis, it is necessary to increase utility rates in the 2020-2021 budget. The rates will be adjusted effective on October 1, 2020. Customers will notice the increased rates in their November bills. The typical residential water customer uses 5,100 gallons of water in an average month. The proposed rate adjustment will increase the average monthly bill (combined for water and sewer) by $8.25.

The City previously held a Telephone Town Hall to discuss these changes. A recording of the meeting was captured. More in-depth information on the new utility rates is available.
