Zipline Drone Delivery Coming to Anna

A new way to receive everyday essentials is taking flight in Anna! Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 19, neighbors will be able to experience Zipline, a fully electric drone delivery service that brings medicine, groceries and other household items straight to your doorstep in minutes. Zipline's technology helps reduce road traffic and emissions while offering fast, contactless delivery options across the community.

How it works:

Zipline uses fully autonomous electric drones, to deliver packages safely and quietly.

  • Eligible neighbors near the Walmart Supercenter, 521 S Central Expressway, can place an order through the Zipline app
  • The aircraft takes off from a nearby dock and flies directly to the delivery address
  • Once it arrives, a smaller "droid", called a Zip, lowers from the drone and gently delivers the order to the ground
  • The Zip then returns to its dock to recharge for its next flight

Each delivery is monitored remotely by trained pilots and supported by local Zipline team members to ensure smooth, safe operations.

Frequently asked questions:

What kinds of items can Zipline deliver?
Zipline delivers tens of thousands of items, everything from groceries to road trip essentials including drinks as well as small electronics like earbuds, tablets, speakers up to 5.5 pounds in weight, all in a matter of minutes.

Is Zipline safe?
Safety is a top priority. Zipline has completed more than 1.4 million commercial autonomous deliveries worldwide and has safely flown more than 120 million autonomous commercial miles. Each Zip has a built-in safety system, including a parachute recovery system for controlled landings in the rare event of an issue.

How high do Zips fly?
The aircraft stays roughly 300 ft. in the air while their Zip lowers orders down to the delivery location, staying well beneath traditional aircraft flight paths.

What happens if a drone lands unexpectedly?
The aircraft performs more than 500 safety checks every second. If a safety check finds a challenge or issue in flight, the Zip will determine the safest course of action, such as returning to dock or flagging a repair for maintenance. If all redundant systems determine that the safest option is to clear the airspace quickly, the Zip can deploy a parachute and float safely to the ground. If community members or first responders reach the site first, they are advised not to touch the aircraft and contact Zipline directly.

How are deliveries powered?
Zipline's home delivery system uses fully autonomous, electric aircrafts. Each one is designed and tested for safety and sustainability.

Why is Zipline coming to Anna?
Anna is part of Zipline's growing North Texas network, helping lead the way in sustainable and efficient delivery technology that supports convenience, innovation and local access.
