- Outdoor fireplaces/chimeneas should always be used safely with adult supervision and shall be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- When they are used at multi-family dwellings, the fire pit/chimenea must be located at least fifteen feet away from combustible construction.
- When used in one and two-family dwellings, the outdoor fireplace/chimenea can be used within fifteen feet of combustible construction.
- Outdoor cooking fires shall utilize a pit or approved container that fully contains the fire. A Fireproof container, such as a barbeque pit or chimenea, must be constructed of brick, stone, metal or other fireproof material. Open flame cooking devices, charcoal and other similar devices used for cooking shall not be located or used on combustible balconies, decks or within 15 feet of combustible construction. These devices may be used if the balcony or deck is fire sprinklered and allowed by the apartment management.

A Knox Box is required for all new construction, provided with a fire protection system, and on existing construction undergoing substantial renovation that is provided with a fire protection system. The Fire Marshal may also require a Knox Box on existing construction, should it be necessary due to life-saving or fire-fighting measures or the property presents specific challenges and hazards. The size, type and location of the Knox Box are determined on a case-by-case basis, dependent upon a review of the specific building and/or occupancy.
