Contesting a Citation

All defendants have the option to speak with the Judge regarding their citation. To request a court date, you must visit the Clerk's window, send an email, or submit a written request by mail to 120 W. 7th St., Anna, TX 75409. (You will receive notice via USPS mail/email)

When making an appearance on your citation, you will be required to enter a plea of "Guilty," "Not Guilty," or "No Contest."

Not guilty means informing the Court that you deny committing the offense and will require the State to prove the charge against you. If you enter a plea of Not Guilty, you will have the right to have a Trial by Judge (Bench Trial) or a trial by Jury (Jury Trial). You may choose to represent yourself. However, the only other person who can represent you in court is a licensed attorney.

Guilty: By entering a guilty plea, you are admitting that you committed the offense you are charged with. You are waiving your right to a jury trial and agreeing to pay the fines and costs assessed by the Judge.

Nolo Contendere(No Contest): A plea of Nolo Contendere (No Contest) means you are not admitting guilt. However, you do not contest the state's charge against you. No Contest does, however, have the same effect as guilty. You are waiving your right to a jury trial and agree to pay all fines and costs assessed by the Judge.
