About Anna

The City of Anna, incorporated in 1913, is located in north central Collin County on U.S. 75, State Highway 5, and State Highway 121, about 40 miles north of Dallas, and is one of the fastest growing cities in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The city currently occupies a land area of approximately 15.6 square miles and services approximately 27,823 residents. The City of Anna is empowered to levy a property tax on both real and personal properties located within its boundaries. It is also empowered by state statute to extend its corporate limits by annexation, which occurs periodically when deemed appropriate by the governing body.

 

The City of Anna provides a comprehensive range of services, including police and fire protection, municipal court, parks and recreation, water and sewer services, solid waste collection/disposal, and the construction and maintenance of streets and other infrastructure. Additionally, the City of Anna is financially accountable for three separate entities: a legally distinct economic development corporation, a community development corporation, and a housing finance corporation.

City Council

The City Council is comprised of a mayor and six members. It is responsible for enacting ordinances, resolutions, and regulations governing the City, as well as appointing the members of various statutory and advisory boards, the City Manager, City Attorney, and municipal judges. The mayor and the council members are elected on a non-partisan basis. Both the mayor and council members serve three-year terms. Four of the council members are elected by district. The mayor and two remaining council members are elected at large. The City Manager is the chief executive officer of the city and is responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances, appointing and supervising the directors and heads of departments, and performing functions within the city.

 

The Council typically meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month with Work Sessions beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Regular Sessions beginning at 6 p.m. City Council meetings are streamed live online.
